Curious about the best places to stay during your trip to Rhodes? Whether you’re looking for the luxury of a hotel or the cozy feel of a guesthouse or apartment, Rhodes offers a variety of accommodations. During my research for our visit to Rhodes, I found some real gems that I am excited to share with you. This blog post highlights the top spots to stay in Rhodes!

Where is Rhodes located?

Rhodes is the main island of the Greek Dodecanese archipelago (‘twelve islands’) and is located in the eastern Aegean Sea, near the Turkish coast. The island is approximately 78 kilometres long and 38 kilometres wide.

The landscape is dominated by a mountain range in the centre. At 1,215 metres, Mount Attaviros is the highest point on the island. The terrain slopes gently down to the coasts in the north and south.

How many days for Rhodes?

To explore the main highlights of Rhodes, you should plan at least of five to seven days to discover the medieval town and enjoy the island to the fullest. The island is also varied enough to fill a longer stay of several weeks, especially if you also want to relax.

Which is the most beautiful town on Rhodes? In my opinion, Lindos, with its picturesque alleys, whitewashed houses and breathtaking acropolis, is the most beautiful town on Rhodes.

Is Rhodes worth a visit?

Yes, Rhodes is worth a visit, as the island offers a combination of beautiful beaches, plenty of sunshine, a rich culture with historical sites such as the medieval old town of Rhodes Town and the Acropolis of Lindos, as well as delicious Greek cuisine and diverse landscapes, from the coast to the mountains. Whether you are looking for relaxation, sightseeing or hiking, Rhodes offers something for everyone.

The best time to visit Rhodes is April, May, October, and November. However, if you don’t mind the heat and aren’t bothered by the crowds of tourists, you can of course also visit the island in summer, from June to September. ‘Winter’ in Rhodes is from November to February. Even then, it’s a wonderful time to explore the island, and you’ll have most of the sights almost to yourself.

Where to stay in Rhodes – The best areas

Rhodes is one of Greece’s most diverse holiday destinations, which is also reflected in the range of holiday options available. In addition to large all-inclusive resorts on Rhodes and simple apartment complexes, the Greek island also offers small boutique hotels. These hotels are perfect for a romantic and relaxing holiday on Rhodes.

Rhodes Old Town – Best for Culture & History

Staying in the Old Town is perfect if you want to be right in the centre of it all, surrounded by history, cobblestone streets and centuries-old architecture.

Staying here means you can explore on foot, wander charming squares, visit museums and enjoy plenty of traditional tavernas nearby. It’s lively during the day but tends to quiet down at night once the day-trippers leave.

Sights and places of interest in Rhodes Town:

• Grand Master’s Palace: one of the first buildings constructed by the Knights
• Archaeological Museum, located in the former hospital of the Knights
• The beautiful buildings from the time when the Italians occupied the island, such as the Bank of Greece, the Archbishop’s Palace, the Town Hall and the National Theatre.
• The harbour, where the famous Colossus of Rhodes, over 30 metres high, once stood before being completely destroyed in an earthquake.

Where to stay in Faliraki Beach – Best For Nightlife & Young Travellers

Faliraki is one of the most popular villages in Rhodes island, which is famous in Greece for its nightlife, long pedestrian street and bustling atmospheres. The village lies about 15 kilometers away from the airport, and just 12 kilometers away from the capital of the island. In the center of the village souvenir shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and a lot of music bars are waiting for guests. The nightlife is significant in the clubs, most of the local karaoke and cocktail bars are getting filled during the summer nights.

I loved Faliraki and other towns like Lindos for a mixture of beauty, some traditional life, and being closer to the ocean.

Atalanti Boutique Hotel – Adults Only (Luxury): The property is stunning with incredible views. You could sit by the pool all day. The bedrooms were clean and very comfortable. The complex is immaculate and situated in a perfect position with access to transport should you wish to explore. Eastern Rhodes – The best villages and places to stay

Between Faliraki and the southern tip of the island, you will discover several great beaches and bays:

• Anthony Quinn Bay, the favourite beach of the star actor from ‘Zorba the Greek’.
• Beaches of Lindos, located below the village, are perfect for a refreshing break after visiting the Acropolis.
• Gennadi Beach, a beautiful and very quiet pebble beach that is not overly crowded.
• Prasonisi Beach (at the southernmost tip of the island) is one of the most beautiful beaches with a fine sandy spit that marks the border between the Aegean and the Mediterranean, also very popular with windsurfers.

There are some beautiful hotels near the beaches, and the atmosphere is often much quieter than in Faliraki. For me, it’s the best place to spend a relaxing holiday on Rhodes!

Kalathos Sun Hotel (Kalathos): Small family-run hotel located 5 minutes from the beach. Rooms start from €80 per night, including breakfast. The property is very cozy, spacious rooms, lovely terrace and very clean. Perfect for a chill holiday in Rhodes! ☑ Check prices and availability here.

Kolymbia Sun: (Kolymbia): Peaceful mid-range Hotel located right on the beach. Modern rooms from €160. A good choice if you are looking for an all-inclusive hotel for your stay in Rhodes. ☑ Check prices and availability here.

Casa Cook Rhodes – Adults Only: An adults-only boutique hotel with a focus on slow living and bohemian style. Rooms are designed with verandas and direct access to private or shared pools. The accommodation features minimalist interiors and modern comforts. Located on the east coast of Rhodes, close to the beach (350 metres) and the centre of the friendly village of Kolymbia. With 124 rooms, this boutique hotel is slightly larger than the others, although you won’t notice this much. The rooms are spread across multiple low, white buildings, which are no more than one storey high. Simply one of the best luxury hotels in Rhodes! ☑ Check prices and availability here.

Language & currency

Rhodes has a total population of around 117,000, with the administrative and economic centre being the city of the same name, which has approximately 54,000 inhabitants. As in all other parts of Greece, Modern Greek is the official language. However, English and, in some cases, German are also spoken in hotels.

The currency in Greece is the Euro. In larger towns and in hotels, guests can pay by credit card almost everywhere. There are ATMs in all towns where you can withdraw cash.
